Neoplasmah - Sidereal Passage

This is some really, really well done technical death metal from Portugal. I'm very surprised these guys haven't gotten more attention from critics and fans. The vocalist has a one of a kind growl, it's really quite amazing. Really interesting lyrics too, if you're into the whole celestial death metal thing. All the instruments are brilliantly played, and the production job is great. This is pretty proggy, as well.

Intestine Baalism - Banquet in the Darkness

Fantastic melodic death metal from Japan. Well executed/written song structure, and really cool melodies/riffs.

Phantasmagory - Odd Sounds

Another strange progressive DM album, but then again strange is to be expected when an album is called "Odd Sounds". Keyboard, synths, groovy/jazzy drums, twisted (and semi-technical) guitar riffs, and an otherworldly atmosphere make this one a very interesting and fulfilling listen. Everlasting Change is one of the best progressive metal songs you will ever stumble upon.

Dead Congregation - Graves of the Archangels

Sounds like a mix between Immolation, Portal, and Incantation. Great atmosphere, riffs, and original songwriting. One of the best DM albums so far this year.

Oppressor - Solstice of Oppression

More early technical death metal, with some progressive elements and a distinctive sound. Blows their later releases out of the water.

Disincarnate - Dreams of the Carrion Kind

An absolute classic of old school death metal, this is one of my favorites. Just listen to James Murphy riff, and you'll find out why. Considered one of the first tech death albums.

Mithras - Worlds Beyond the Veil

Truly unique and inspired atmospheric/experimental death metal. If I had to describe their sound, it would be like a more brutal, technical Morbid Angel on (more?) psychedelic drugs.

Origin - Antithesis

Antithesis is one of the most intense death metal albums you will ever hear. Paul Ryan is one of the best guitarists in technical/brutal death metal, and he shows it with his best riffing yet. That's not to say he's the only reason to listen to Origin, all of these guys can play their instruments. This is just a constant onslaught of epic brutality.

Hour of Penance - The Vile Conception

As far as brutal death metal goes, this is top of the line material. Its songwriting, technicality, production, and brutality all mold perfectly to form a great album matched by few of its peers. Ever start listening to a BDM album, enjoy it, but stop it before it's finished because it wears on you? This won't.

Sarpanitum - Despoilment of Origin

Basically, this band is what Nile wish they were. Pretty technical, brutal death metal with flairs of Egyptian/eastern melodies, and it's got an old school sound to it, as well. Great stuff.

Paranormal Waltz - Atmos-Fear (unreleased album)

This is some incredibly creative atmospheric/progressive death metal. It uses a lot of synths to create a great ambient atmosphere, and as a lot of albums I'll be adding are, its very strange and abstract. Too bad these guys didn't get off the ground.
